Why are you looking for a Surrogate?

We have always dreamed of being parents, and surrogacy has always been a meaningful option for us in building our family. The Canadian surrogacy model resonates strongly with our values, making this journey feel aligned with our vision for creating a family.

Tell us about your family & loved ones.

Our parents and siblings know about our surrogacy journey and are very excited and happy for us. We have the support of our friends and co-workers as well.

Would you like to attend appointments with your Surrogate?

We would love to attend obstetrical appointments with the Surrogate, as long as she is comfortable with it. We are happy to join virtually.

What are your thoughts on termination of a pregnancy due to genetic abnormalities or complications related to the pregnancy?

We believe in the option of termination if the fetus has a condition or malformation that would impact its quality of life, or if the pregnancy poses a serious risk to the Surrogate's health. Our priority is the health and well-being of both the Surrogate and the child.

If the Surrogate becomes pregnant with multiples, how would you feel? How do you feel about the possibility of selective reduction being recommended due to a multiple pregnancy?

We would be excited and supportive of a multiple pregnancy as long as it is deemed medically safe for both the Surrogate and the babies. Our priority is the health and well-being of everyone involved. We respect the Surrogate's autonomy and understand that decisions about her body ultimately rest with her. If selective reduction is recommended or chosen by the Surrogate for medical or personal reasons, we would fully support her decision.

Are you vaccinated for Covid-19? Do you have a preference for a Surrogate to have been vaccinated for Covid-19?

Yes, we are both vaccinated for Covid-19. We would prefer the surrogate to be vaccinated as well.

What kind of relationship do you want to have with your Surrogate during the pregnancy?

We would love to have an open and positive relationship with our Surrogate, staying in touch as much as she is comfortable with. We deeply value the care she's providing for our child and want to be supportive, while also respecting her privacy and personal boundaries.

Do you want to be in the delivery room when your child is born?

We would love to be in the delivery room when our child is born. This moment is incredibly meaningful for us, as it represents the culmination of a beautiful journey. We see it as a chance to share this milestone alongside the Surrogate in a way that honors her role and allows us to welcome our child into the world with love and gratitude.

What kind of relationship do you hope to have with your Surrogate after the birth of your child?

We would love to keep in touch after the pregnancy, as we are deeply grateful for her role in helping us become parents. We would be happy to stay connected in whatever way she is comfortable with, allowing her to set the level of contact that feels right for her.

Would you be open to a home birth?

No, we would prefer the birth to take place at a hospital to ensure access to immediate medical care and support for both the Surrogate and the baby.

Are you open to midwifery care?

No, we would prefer obstetric care.

Would you like your Surrogate to provide breastmilk?

We haven't given this much thought yet, but we would be open to the Surrogate providing breastmilk if she feels comfortable with it. We would discuss and follow her preferences in this regard.

What will you tell the child about the Surrogate, and the circumstances of their birth? If your child asks to meet the Surrogate, how will you feel?

We believe in being completely open and honest with our child about the circumstances of their birth. We will explain that a wonderful Surrogate helped us bring them into the world out of kindness and generosity, playing an essential role in making us a family. We will always acknowledge and celebrate the Surrogate's selflessness and the unique journey that brought our child to us. We would fully support our child if they express a desire to meet the Surrogate. We believe this openness can enrich our child's understanding of their story and strengthen the connection to the incredible person who helped bring them into our lives.

If the transfer is unsuccessful, will you want to try again? If so, how soon after?

We would like to try again as soon as the Surrogate feels ready and it is safe for her health and well-being. Her comfort and safety are our top priorities, and we will follow the guidance of medical professionals to ensure the timing is appropriate.

If this surrogacy journey is successful, would you want to complete a sibling journey? What do you envision that looking like? (timeline, same Surrogate etc.)

We are currently focused on welcoming our first child, so we haven't made a decision about a sibling journey yet. However, we are open to the possibility in the future.

What are your plans for childcare once the child is born?

We plan to spend as much time as possible with our child during our paternity leave. However, we understand that childcare will be necessary at some point. We are happy about this, as it will provide our child with the opportunity to socialize and interact with other children in a supportive environment.

What does a typical weekend look like for you?

Typically, our weekends are spent enjoying quality time together, whether it's with friends and family or on day trips. Some weekends, we love staying at home and taking it slow. Josep often prepares delicious pancakes for breakfast—a treat that, while not a typical Spanish breakfast, Roberto absolutely loves.
Other times, we visit Josep’s parents, who also live in Barcelona. We have lunch together and spend the day catching up and sharing stories about our week. We also enjoy meeting with friends, whether for brunch followed by a walk along the seaside or exploring the historic center of Barcelona.
From time to time, we take a break from the city and travel to inner Spain to enjoy the countryside and connect with friends from all over. A couple of weeks ago, we met up for a pottery-painting and collage-making session, combining our hobbies and creativity. These moments of connection, whether close to home or further away, are an important part of our lives and help us create lasting memories.

What are some of your interests/ activities?

We both enjoy traveling and staying active, whether through sports or other outdoor activities. We absolutely love spending time with our little niece, Olivia, who celebrated her first birthday this past September. Josep loves training (he works out every day), reading, cooking, and cinema—especially horror movies. Roberto is passionate about genealogy (he has been working on his family tree for over 10 years and has discovered around 12,000 relatives!), exploring family history, music (he's a proud Swiftie!), and documentaries. Of course, he also enjoys a touch of Netflix—give him a classic comedy or romantic movie, and he's happy!

Other fun facts:

We enjoy a variety of cuisines, with a special love for homemade Spanish food, Japanese, and Italian dishes. Josep has a passion for cooking and usually prepares these meals at home. We also love exploring new restaurants and cuisines, making every dining experience a joyful adventure. We have a few fun facts that make our journey together quite unique! Josep worked in television for five years and has also studied Chinese for five years—a skill that always surprises people. He also spent eight years as a volunteer at a psychiatric hospital, an experience that shaped his perspective on empathy and connection. Roberto, on the other hand, spent a summer working at Disneyland Paris while completing his studies, which was an unforgettable experience. He also speaks Spanish, English, and French fluently and professionally.

Together, we love to travel and have already checked off one of our big travel goals: in 2019, we embarked on an incredible road trip with friends, driving from New Orleans to San Francisco. Our travels have taken us to some extraordinary places, from the breathtaking fjords of Norway and the ancient city of Petra in Jordan to the stunning landscapes of Australia and New Zealand, where we celebrated our honeymoon. Exploring the world has been a big part of our shared adventures!

“We’re Josep and Roberto, two people who believe in living life with love, kindness, and respect for everyone. Our relationship is built on trust and a deep appreciation for family, friends and community, and we take every opportunity to celebrate life’s big and small moments. Becoming parents is our greatest dream, and we are so grateful to those who help make it possible through their incredible generosity. Our hope is to create a home where our child will always feel loved, supported, and free to be themselves. We are excited to start this journey with someone who shares these values and would be honored to build this connection with you.”
