Why are you looking for a Surrogate?

In France, we have already done 4 IVF cycles without success. The embryos fail to implant but we have not been given a medical reason as to why. We looked into adoption, but all the examples we know of have dissuaded us from it. Surrogacy is our last hope to build a family.

Tell us about your family & loved ones.

The whole family knows about our difficulties in having children. Our parents are incredibly supportive of our surrogacy journey. In fact, it was Joffray’s mother who put us in contact with a distant cousin who had a child through a Ukrainian Surrogate! Our siblings are also very supportive. Sabrina has 1 sister who has 4 children and 1 brother who has 2 children. Her brother has been living in Quebec since June 2023. Joffray has 2 brothers and a sister. His sister has 1 daughter and his bother has 2 sons. Everyone is very supportive and excited for us to have a child of our own.

Would you like to attend appointments with your Surrogate?

Unfortunately we will not be able to attend appointments due to the distance.

What are your thoughts on termination of a pregnancy due to genetic abnormalities or complications related to the pregnancy?

We will be genetically testing our embryos to minimize the risk of pregnancy termination. If unfortunately, the embryo develops with a genetic anomaly, we would want to terminate the pregnancy.

If the Surrogate becomes pregnant with multiples, how would you feel? How do you feel about the possibility of selective reduction being recommended due to a multiple pregnancy?

In the event the Surrogate is pregnant with multiples, we would be happy to keep them all. However, if the safety of the Surrogate or the babies are at risk, we will follow medical advise and selectively reduce.

Are you vaccinated for Covid-19? Do you have a preference for a Surrogate to have been vaccinated for Covid-19?

We work in the Health sector so we have to be vaccinated and we are. We are fine to work with a Surrogate who is not vaccinated.

What kind of relationship do you want to have with your Surrogate during the pregnancy?

We want a relationship based on trust. We would like to be informed at each key stage of the pregnancy- a quick message or a video call would be great. We will always be reachable at any time, but we are content to have a conversation once a week.

Do you want to be in the delivery room when your child is born?

Yes

What kind of relationship do you hope to have with your Surrogate after the birth of your child?

We hope to stay in contact with the Surrogate after the birth, however if she does not wish to maintain contact, we will respect her decision.

Would you be open to a home birth?
We would prefer a hospital birth for safety reasons.

Are you open to midwifery care?

We are open to midwifery care if this is more practical for the Surrogate.

Would you like your Surrogate to provide breastmilk?

No.

What will you tell the child about the Surrogate, and the circumstances of their birth? If your child asks to meet the Surrogate, how will you feel?

We will always be transparent about the circumstances of our child’s birth. We would be happy to help facilitate an introduction of our child to the Surrogate, if the Surrogate is willing.

If the transfer is unsuccessful, will you want to try again? If so, how soon after?

We would like to try again as soon as possible, according to the doctor’s recommendations and the Surrogate’s feelings.

If this surrogacy journey is successful, would you want to complete a sibling journey? What do you envision that looking like? (timeline, same Surrogate etc.)

Ideally we want to have two children. We would like to have children close in age, ideally 12-18 months. If the Surrogate is willing to do a sibling journey, we would be happy to continue the adventure with her.

What are your plans for childcare once the child is born?

We have parental leave which includes 1 month for the father and 6 months for the mother at minimum. We are fortunate to have our parents just 10 minutes away in case we need someone to help.

What does a typical weekend look like for you?

We have renovated our farm ourselves over the past 3 years. We have lived there for over a year, but we are still completing renovations all the time. We enjoy working together on these projects and even including some of our family members too! We love spending time with our 2 dogs, Otis and Nala. We take them for walks in the forest and around our farm. Our family is quite close, so we often enjoy having meals together. A weekend wouldn’t be complete without a little shopping too!

What are some of your interests/ activities?

We enjoy spending time in nature, especially with our dogs. We both enjoy gardening, spending time with family and friends, going to the movies together, cooking in our newly renovated kitchen and spending time with family.
