To our Surrogate.
From Mariah:
Hi. I’m excited to meet you. Isn’t it wonderful that someone can have such an impact on another person’s life? I think sometimes the best things come to you in ways you would never have anticipated. I’m not going to pretend this journey has been easy, it hasn’t. I’ve had losses, I’ve had surgeries. I have caught other people’s babies while I mourned my own pregnancies. But I cannot remember one delivery that I did not smile during, nor one day where Thomas didn’t have my hand and encourage me to keep on hoping.
And that hope has led me to you. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for opening your heart to someone you don’t know. Thank you for being that person to forever change the course of my life. It’s not a small ask, to have someone grow your child. It’s the biggest form of trust that I can think of. But I trust you. And I hope that I am someone that you can trust as well, to respect the gift you are giving, and to have your hand though this process.
From Thomas:
Hello and bonjour. I’m incredibly grateful for you, for gifting us something that means so much to us both. I am an only child, raised as a third-culture kid, that came to Canada with big dreams. I’m fortunate to have found an incredible partner in Mariah, who has been so brave and strong throughout this journey. But while our journey has had its curves and forks in the road, we have maintained hope – hope that one day, we can add to our family.
Stepping into this, I’ll admit, I’ll be learning a lot along the way. But, in taking these steps with us, I want you to know that we trust and support you.
From both of us:
Through all of our experiences with infertility, we have only grown stronger in our love for each other, and our hope that we can share that love with a child. We feel lucky in so many ways, including that this opportunity has connected us with wonderful people who come together to help build families.
How great is it that gestational surrogacy is even a possibility that we have?
We will leave you with the immortal words of Bill Nye the Science Guy; “Science Rules!”
Mariah and Thomas.
